What Would Have Happened?
If the Sons of Liberty had not been formed by Samuel Adams in the year 1765, life in the colonies would be very different. The Sons of Liberty were mainly caused to protest British taxes. Without this group boycotting British goods, the colonists would have continued to use them and ignored the "no taxation without representation" aspect of it. There would have been less violence throughout the colonies between the British and the Americans. Therefore, events like the Boston Tea Party and the Boston Massacre would have been less likely to happen. It is safe to assume that it would have happened eventually, but it would have taken a bit longer. Without these events taking place sooner, Boston wouldn't have been put under British control because of the Intolerable Acts as quickly. The colonies wouldn't have been as rebellious because there wouldn't really be much to protest against. Other events that were on the road to revolution would have taken longer to happen, so we would have had a better relationship with Britain for a longer period of time.
This would effect everyday life as we know it because the colonists that would have been Patriots wouldn't have had as much hatred toward Britain. Colonies would be composed mainly of Loyalists who supported and were in favor of having ties with Britain. We would still drink British tea, have pictures of King George in our houses and do many more British things for several years later (including speaking their style of their language with their accents). We would have deep British roots, so we would have a British based culture which would effect how we dressed, ate and even decorated our houses! As far as government is concerned, we would still be ruled by the British monarchy and we would probably just be starting to protest about 50 years later. Although we would have been more peaceful, we still would have eventually broken off from our mother country. After the break off with Britain, we would have continued to be good friends with Britain and they wouldn't have been hostile to us for so many years afterward. We would be deeply drowned into the British way of life and we wouldn't have had a problem with it.
